TEACHING RESUMÉ
Dr. Paul Steenhuisen has taught music to students of many different ages and levels of education. Short-term teaching engagements have included instruction for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's school music appreciation programs (elementary level), with SOUNDSTREAMS Canada at high schools in the Greater Toronto Area, and as instructor for the Canadian Music Centre's Composer in the Classroom project at Unionville High School in Markham, Ontario. Also at the high school level, for several years Dr. Steenhuisen taught saxophone at St. Georges School in Vancouver.
At the university level, he served as teaching assistant to numerous courses at the University of British Columbia, and was for four years Assistant Professor of Composition at the University of Alberta, where he built and was director of two new electroacoustic music studios, and taught a broad range of courses. Currently, while focussing on composition, Paul Steenhuisen lectures at least once a year in the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and gives individual lectures at a variety of universities when combined with performances of his work. Most recently, while Composer in Residence of the SONIC Boom Festival (Vancouver Pro Musica), he gave private tutorials to undergraduate and graduate level composition students at the University of British Columbia.
